Waiting for Outcomes
Ah, behind the scenes things are brewing. It was a big week back to work as things heat up as Kaffe Fassett, his trusty companion Brandon and Kim McLean workshops draw near. It is always hard to believe when things planned for such a long time are upon us. It a gorgeous quilt and it will be fascinating to see the variety of quilts that get made up using this pattern throughout the week. I am a big fan of the 60 degree shapes and although this pattern works contrast, it is subtle throughout giving it grace and charm. In the next room is The Garden quilt is being demonstrated by Kim McLean. Some are a bit more complicated but there are plenty to start that are manageable and then when the confidence grows, tackle the trickier bits. off the press is Patchwork Mania in which Kim is the featured quilter with a story that shows just how much unbelievable talent Kim has displayed over the years in her quilts. The imagination combined with technical skill is obvious in all her work. Truely aspirational. Check out the article on one of Austraila most reknown quilters and her decades of work.
Here is a quilt done up with Kaffe latest range of fabrics by Kim Holt. Kim used the folk art square pattern and a variety of other Kaffe fabrics to make this quilt. Can you go wrong with these fabrics? I don think so. This particular feature fabric is printed in handy squares with luscious background colors. Used big or small it is a winner with a quick return on time invested!
While we are on magazines and long awaited outcomes, one closer to home, the Quilters Companion 2011 Yearbook came out (issue 47) and the dvd with the issue is Learn How to Use a Design Wall w/Kathy Doughty. Ah, yes, even I had to sit on the edge of my chair to keep up with the fast talking Kathy Doughty. It was really fun working with Clare on this project. Watching myself in action was a hoot! Noah came in and saw what I was watching and simply stated, "HOW EMBARRASSING!" and left the room. However, it is timely seeing this magazine is out now as we prepare for Kaffe visit. I learned about using the design wall initially from the master himself. The first time we hosted his workshop which was nealry three years ago now was the first time I actually saw this practice in use and since then it has become the most essential tool I use in both my classes and in my studio to design quilts.
My design wall has been getting a huge workout lately. With the summer holidays and our house liveable I have found several days to get some quilt ideas out of my head and into reality. It is exciting to realise that the big hurdle of renovating is over. Six new quilts and more and more and more to come.
The General Wife is the quilt featured in the dvd and the project in the magazine.
This is a great stash project. I used up a good percentage of my black and whites which complimented the French General collection of fabric really well. However, you can use any color combination or collection of designer fabrics that you like. The technique for this quilt is fun and easy to learn. Once you get the hang of it, any fabric combination will do. There are lots of great stories and projects in this issue.
In preparation for the start of classes in February there are a few vacancies in a few classes that you might want to check out if you are local:

up is a book review that I intended to do today but somehow, somewhere, I buried the book under a pile of fabric with another fun thing. Come on, how ridiculous is that! I have spent ages this morning searching for things and now, quite frankly, I give up. Enjoy.
Having never met you in person, but admired you from afar through your blog and your books (I bought both Material Obssession books and fell in love with all of the featured quilts before even trying to sew!),michael kors pas cher, I now know what you sound like! I love your accent, and the pace at which you speak. It evokes passion and a huge love for what you do in every sentence! Your eye for colour is amazing, I paused many times on the design wall shots to see the almost flippant way you threw things together, which leaves us newbies wondering if we will ever it like you?!!! You truly are an inspiration! I love reading about your family and your home renovation also. Blessings to you and yours,
