IN "A DAY at the market" (The Observer, Page A2, Feb. 24), Sam Allis cites a culture of people who have become obsessed with natural foods and body products; it goes far beyond that. I worked at Whole Foods in Newton after high school, and put up with the snobby misbehavior of patrons that would seldom be tolerated anywhere else. What you come to understand after a couple of years there is that, for the most part, these people would be unable to honestly answer why they were there in the first place. A grocery store is a grocery store until it becomes more than that not through its food nor its customer service, but through its branding, its image.
